The Danny Bennett Poll and mid-season predictions

10) Stanford
9) Ohio State
8) TCU
7) Boise State
6) Michigan State
5) Alabama
4) Auburn
3) Oklahoma
2) LSU
1) Oregon

1 The Ducks have been by far the most impressive team in College Football thus far. Their ability to close games in the second half is what makes them so scary. LaMichael James and Darron Thomas have a very good understanding of how the offense operates and how to keep up the tempo to keep the defense off-guard. They are also the best conditioned team I have seen thus far. If their offense stalls however, their defense could keep them from making a BCS championship appearance (considering that they'll have to run the table to make the game).

2 My Bayou Bengals have the best defense in college football, and they're deep on d. Let's face it, Jordan Jefferson is one hell of an athlete, but he's noooo quarterback. Throwing Lee in as a change of pace pocket passer will make their offense very potent. They have a veteran offensive line and a couple of damn good running backs. They finally got Terrance Tolliver involved against Florida and his ability will come through the rest of the season. Their problem is they play in the SEC; they play Auburn this week, Alabama the following and finish up against Arkansas.

3 Boomer Sooner has played their cards right so far this season. Demarco Murray is on a tear and can absolutely do it all. They smoked Florida State and beat Texas while they were ranked high. They play damn good defense and have a very favorable schedule the rest of the way; Missouri this week (W) and a tough game at the end of the season against Oklahoma State.

4 Da Tigers have impressive wins against South Carolina and Arkansas. Cameron Newton is a heck of a story and has his team lookin' really strong. Like LSU, they still have a difficult SEC road ahead of them. The SEC West is absolutely nuts, Auburn and LSU are tied at the top and squaring off this weekend and right behind them is oh yeah, ALABAMA.

5 The Tide' is STILL the best team in the country. They lost to South Carolina on the road after beating a then HOT Arkansas team and Florida at home. Three legit top tier schools in a row got to them and South Carolina just happened to play an absolutely perfect game. They possibly have the two most NFL ready tailbacks in the same backfield, a veteran quarterback and a savvy defense. Their secondary is absurdly talented but inexperienced. But now that they've had the taste of a loss in their mouth, they'll be hungry the rest of the year. They still have LSU @ death valley, Auburn and Mississippi State. No big for Saban.

6 Sparty is on fire! Michigan State has a very favorable schedule the rest of the way and the fact that they don't have to play the Big Ten's best team, Ohio State, is a huge break. I have a geographical advantage in breaking down the Spartans. Over the last couple years I've watched Coach Dantonio turn this team around and they have an opportunity to run the table. Man, that sounds weird to say but they're got a very well rounded offense and a sound defense with maybe the country's best mike linebacker. Unreal.

7 The Blue Field Bombers have no right to be playing for a national title. Coach Petersen has built a damn good football team but I don't give a shit if they're better than 01' Miami. If they don't have to play a full difficult schedule THROUGHOUT the season than they have no right to be mentioned among SEC or Big Ten teams no matter how good they are. You beat Virginia Tech and Oregon State, whoop-de-friggin doo. When Boise decides to make every non-conference game against a BCS opponent, then we can talk. Until then, keep shutting out San Jose State and fooling the computer system.

8 The Horned Frogs are basically in the same boat as Boise State. Their only challenge the rest of the season is against Utah, who is also completely unproven and a big fat question mark in the top ten of the BCS. TCU and Boise are bringing in legit recruits and seem to be pretty damn good teams BUT until they play difficult, full schedules, they cannot be considered for championships in my eyes. They can join bigger conferences (like Utah) or they can go all out trying to schedule a rigorous non-conference schedule. I put these teams in here out of respect.

9 The Vest Inc. have a really good team. Ohio State's defense is extremely good and through these eyes is second only to LSU's. Coash Tressel has always run a fairly conservative offense and who am I to criticize the results. However, with the athletes on the offense, they could benefit by opening things up and make the defense guess where the plays are going to come from. DeVier Posey and Dane Sanzenbacher are NFL talent @ wideout, Brandon Saine and Daniel Herron are NFL talent at running back and Terrelle Pryor is one hell of an athlete. They won't lose another game this year (unfortunately). But like I said, their season could have been one to remember if they opened up the playbook against Wisconsin.

10 The Cardinal are the Pac-10's second best team. Harbaugh has this team running like a well oiled machine. They lost a peculiar game to Oregon and will likely drop another with their brutal second half schedule. I love Harbaugh's approach to coaching though, he will literally hit any team in the mouth, anytime, any stadium. Stanford does not have the talent that many teams in the top 25 have but Harbaugh maximizes that talent and has his team playing hard and playing physical every week, and that goes a long way.
